WHY THIS SITE EXISTS

The story behind Life Favourites

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021, it changed everything. Not just how I thought about illness, but how I thought about health. I describe myself back then as 'surface level healthy'. I exercised, I spent time in nature, I ate fairly well (apart from a chronic sugar addiction); but I also ran on very little sleep, I didn't do anything to support my mind health, and I never really had slow days. So I started asking better questions, reading the research, talking to experts in their field and, most importantly, making real changes to my own life, progressively and over time. From what I eat and how I move to how I breathe and sleep, I rebuilt my habits from the ground up.

Along the way, I discovered products and brands that genuinely made a difference, things that helped me feel stronger, more nourished and more in control. Friends and followers started asking me what I was using, what I’d recommend, what was actually worth it. And I realised that I could do something useful with everything I'm learning.

That’s why Life Favourites exists. It’s my personal edit of the products and brands I believe in - a place where I can share what works for me, and hopefully help you make more informed choices for your own health and wellbeing.

SMALL CHANGES, REAL IMPACT

It starts with better choices

I believe we can all take a more proactive approach to our health, not through quick fixes or fads, but through small, informed choices that add up over time. Life Favourites is where I share the brands and products that support that philosophy, so you can spend less time searching and more time living.

What i stand for

Honest, Thoughtful and Real

I’ve spent over 25 making television programmes around the world, much of that time outdoors in nature, learning about the green and blue spaces and the people and wildlife that are an intrinsic part of the earth's eco-sysytem. If there’s one thing I’ve taken from all of that, it’s that authenticity and balance matters. I’m not interested in fads, quick fixes or showing you something for the sake of it. Life Favourites is built on three things that I care about deeply:

  • Trust - Every brand on this site has earned its place. I only recommend things I genuinely believe in, products that align with my values around quality, integrity and real ingredients. If it’s here, I rate it.
  • Wellbeing - My health journey has taught me that small, consistent changes are more powerful than any magic bullet. The brands I feature support that philosophy - making healthier choices simpler, not more complicated.
  • Transparency - I'll always be upfront with you. Some links on this site are affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you buy something. It never costs you extra and I'd never feature something just because there's a commercial arrangement. That's not who I am.

A Bit about my Health journey

I’ve written two best selling health and wellness books now - Walk Yourself Happy and Hack Yourself Healthy - and both came from the same place: a genuine desire to understand how we can all live better, stronger and longer. I’ve had myself tested inside and out, from my VO2 Max to my DNA and gut health. I’ve sat in cryotherapy chambers at -140 degrees, jumped on rebounders, changed the way I eat and even discovered a cyst in my brain along the way (long story it’s in the book).

I’m not a doctor. I’m not a nutritionist. I’m someone who’s been through a health crisis and come out the other side more curious, more proactive and more determined than ever to share what I find. I believe in a personalised, whole-person approach to health - one that looks at root causes, not just symptoms. And I believe we can all take steps towards that, starting with the everyday choices we make.

II’m still learning every day, still asking questions and still experimenting on myself. If anything I share here helps you make even one better choice for your health, then it’s all been worth it. And I get messages every day saying just that, so I'll keep going.

Come along for the ride

Life Favourites is just one part of what I’m building. I’m also creating content on YouTube, hosting conversations on my podcast and sharing daily life over on Instagram. Whether it’s a walk in the countryside, a health discovery, a product I’m loving or an honest conversation about getting older, I’d love you to be part of it.
This isn't about perfection. It's about progress, curiosity and living well - one small hack at a time.

In Hack Yourself Healthy I write a lot about a preventative approach to health. I was inspired by this quote:
"It is better to build a fence at the top of a cliff than a hospital at the bottom." The quote is often attributed to medical scientist Denis Parsons Burkitt, and it emphasises the importance of prevention (building a fence) over waiting to treat sickness or damage (a hospital/ambulance at the bottom). Pro-active, early interventions are often much more effective than reactive ones.
